We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land we work on as the first people of this country.
The LYAP is based at Wallaga Lake and has been successfully operating for 20 years and run by a volunteer Aboriginal management committee. Merrimans Local Aboriginal Land Council is the land owner.
Currently the LYAP committee is supported by Preschool Director Lea Sutherland, Teachers Assistant Julie Hall, Administration Assistant Amanda Tighe, Project Development Officer Gabrielle Powell and support worker Rhonda Jones.
LYAP provides early education to children aged 2 to 6 years in a cultural setting.
The preschool has a specific building which houses the early education program which contains a main activity room, kitchen, laundry, toilets, storeroom, office and meeting room. It has a large play ground with equipment, shade area and under cover play space.
The aim of the preschool is to provide
- A culturally appropriate and local venue for the delivery of a range of early educational programes as well as providing additional services such as out of school activities and vacation programmes
- Establishment of collaborative relationships/partnerships with the community as well as key child and family services
- Increased level of education and well-being of children
- Supports timely access to early intervention and family support networks & services
- An enhanced capacity to identify community needs
