This is 'Christina's World' by Andrew Wyeth, and it has been my favourite painting since I first laid eyes upon it about 15 yrs ago. You can't help but wonder what she is feeling or thinking about as she sees the vast distance to home. From what I have read about the painting ' Christina' is suffering a crippling disease and thus is feeling far, far from her home on the hill and is unable to move.
Faraway, So Close
begins with Angel stating-
'There was a time when people lived in harmony with the spirits, but along the way they have lost the trust in the unseenable ...
You!
You, whom we love
You do not see us
You do not hear us
You imagine us in the far distance
yet we are so near.
We are the messengers,
who bring closeness to those in the distance.
We are not the message,
We are the messengers,
The message is LOVE !
We are nothing.
You are everything to us.
Let us dwell in your eyes,
see your world through us,
recapture through us
that loving look once again
Then, we'll be close to you
and you close to HIM. '
This movie hits the mark perfectly for me again as it about the true nature of who we are , as I see it. There is always struggle in the human experience , either externally or internally, as it is the nature of growth that can only ever be eased with acceptance that change is omnipresent.
This movie tells of the hardship an angel experiences when he tries out life in the human experience, and realises just how hard this Earth School is. The movie carries a depth of inner peace within it that I rarely find in movies.
The movie also includes music from U2, has cameos from Peter Falk (Colombo), Willem Dafoe, Mikhail Gorbachev (Former leader of Russia), and singer Nic Cave.
It is seen as a sequal to the director's ( Wim Wenders) previous film 'Wings of Desire' which was dumbed down by hollywood in "City of Angels' starring Nicholas Cage. Purists would truly appreciate the magic and etheric peace and profound journey that is 'Wings of Desire' & 'Faraway, So Close' instead.
was a great affirmation of personal beliefs about the world of spirit within us. It tells a story of a man who dies in a car accident and is re-introduced to the 'True Reality' of who we are. The story tells of the power within each of us to overcome any odds.. a philosophy that I ,personally, ascribe to.
