The group has a record of 5 years of continuous workdays since May 2003, with all but one of the original members still attending. A few new members have been acquired on the way, and the group has, with some fine tuning, established a successful format of mutual help. Meeting on the 2nd Saturday of the month, the members come together to achieve a variety of tasks, from building to weeding and everything in between. These tasks are tackled with the formidable variety of skills possessed by members of the group, and the reward each workday is a communally provided lunch of gourmet quality. The Group also tackles a community project from time to time. Chris: Sense of community, Sharing of time, effort and skills, Passage of time marked by growing gardens, children and friendship. Kalpa: We are still here! Lea: We have established friendships and have learnt and grown and shared experiences together which has strengthened our relationships which is what is all about isn’t it! And I got to taste Chris’ homebrewed ginger beer. Mmnn mmnnn. Jennie: Nice to be part of a great group of people, see projects start and be completed, learn about other people’s lives, learn new skills and hear new ideas. Christine: I’m only a peripheral member (actually live in Wyndham!), so what I really value about the group is that it has endured. I’m always welcome when I can make it, and love the vibe and the energy when I am there. Judith: The energy, enthusiasm, vitality and connectedness that’s available. Such a blessing!! Annie: 20 different people and 40 different ideas. A great group, a brave group, a hardworking group. Carol: The productivity – the projects I couldn’t have dreamed of completing alone. But these are nothing compared to the friendships. Rob: The reliability; nearly every workday at least some people have shown up and the energy has always been good! Frances: It’s the community– building part of it; that we come together each month, even if we don’t feel like a work day, and often discover that its great fun being together: the food, the kids, the chat. Over time we get to see projects started and developed: trees grow, buildings go up, buildings come down – its life in process and shared.
