Diaphonia dorsalis

Notice the stylish cut away wing casings. This is a characteristic of beetles in the Cetoniinae group. As well as being ages ahead of the fashion, it allows the beetle to deploy its wings while barely raising the casings (hardened forewings or elytra) and thus fly faster and more accurately than most.

My reference here is "Backyard Insects" by Paul Horne and Denis Crawford. A useful guide to Australian insects with excellent and inspiring macro photography.
